The 12 best gadgets we reviewed this year
I've lost count of the number of things we reviewed this year at Engadget. In 2024, the types of products we tested ranged from the typical phones, laptops and headphones to AI wearables, robotic lawnmowers and handheld gaming consoles, alongside games and shows. It can feel hard to keep track of it all, but thankfully, our scoring system helps us highlight the best (and the worst) devices each year. Our team of reviewers and editors evaluate products based on their performance, value and how they hold up against the competition, and at least two people weigh in on every score before it's published. If something gets a result of 80 and up, it's considered a "Recommended" product, while those scoring 90 and more are awarded "Editors' Choice." The latter means they're the best in their class, beating out most of the competition.

The 10 Best Gadgets of CES 2022
As COVID-19 cases continue rising due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, this year's CES was once again different from years past--some in-person events went on as planned in Las Vegas, but several big names in the tech world, like Google, Intel and Microsoft, took their announcements virtual instead. Still, that doesn't mean CES 2022 was without its share of high-tech splendor. Those who did show up in person--or logged on to the virtual announcements--were treated to innovations ranging from BMW's color-changing SUV to Razer's cutting-edge modular PC concept. With a trick that looks right out of a James Bond movie, German automaker BMW's new electric iX Flow uses e-ink technology to completely change its color scheme from black to white and anywhere in between; it can also showcase complex patterns and designs. While the IX Flow's color options are limited to the same grayscale gamut you'll find on your e-ink reader, the tech has benefits beyond the cosmetic: on a hot day, drivers could reduce the car's interior temperature by switching from black to a more reflective white option.

The 10 Best Gadgets of the 2010s
Making a list of the decade's most important and influential gadgets is, in a word, illuminating -- and that's before you factor in all the LEDs. Over the last 10 years, thousands of products have been released, and while some are definitely "cooler" than others, their impact on the past decade, and the decade to come, is by no means identical. Each gadget tells the story of a new way of thinking, a slow-moving paradigm shift set to change the way we approach the personal technology we interact with on a daily basis. Sure, you might not know what a Raspberry Pi is, but its impact on industries like robotics and home automation has been massive. But the elegantly executed idea has opened up a world of delight for gamers with disabilities. Think drones are just for shooting vacation footage?

The best gadgets of 2018
It's difficult to think of 2018 as a year with anything worth celebrating. But despite all the bad news the year dealt us, there were successes -- if you know where to look. In all corners of tech, we saw wins big and small. There were advances in obvious categories like laptops, smartphones and the connected home, but we also looked outside the mainstream for some of the more surprising gems. Think mini synthesizers for music nerds, retro emulators for nostalgic gamers and e-readers for modern book snobs. Humanity also collectively triumphed, as our space exploration programs broke new frontiers this year and we began to confront the increasingly real question: Should we all just move to Mars? We're just two weeks away from what is hopefully a much better 12 months, and the Engadget team took some time to commemorate our favorite gadgets and trends in tech.
The Best Gadgets of 2018
From high-tech tablets to powerful new cameras, it's never been a better time to be a gadget fan. Here are some of our favorite gizmos of the year, including a gaming controller for disabled players and a hair styler that promises to do less damage to your do. Gamers with disabilities have few options in terms of accessible games, which makes Microsoft's Xbox Adaptive Controller a huge boon for those unable to play using traditional means. The oversized and adaptable gamepad, which works with Xbox One and Windows 10 devices, is equipped with a pair of gigantic buttons, 19 3.5mm ports for external inputs like joysticks, and mounting holes for attaching it to accessories like stands or wheelchairs. With its faster processor and slimmed-down design, Apple's latest smartwatch is everything the Apple Watch should have been from jump.

The 20 best gadgets of 2018
Instead of relying on heat, this innovative device employs the Coanda jet-flow effect (which helps keep planes airborne) to wrap and style hair. It requires relearning how to coax your locks, but you can say goodbye to heat damage and singed foreheads. The first of Sonos's popular multiroom speakers to come loaded with Amazon's voice assistant, Alexa. "The best all-round music-focused smart speaker available in the UK," says the Guardian. Refrigerators, Robots, and the Rest of the Best Gadgets at CES So Far
The world's greatest gadget pageant, the Consumer Electronics Showcase, kicked off in Las Vegas this week.
